Miss Junior Teen South Dakota International 2021
Since I was little, I have always loved to try new things! I am a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, have had the privilege of Cheering on my High School competitive cheer team for the past 2 seasons, played my first year of basketball in 8th grade and am getting ready to try my first year in track. I love a good challenge and the benefits it gives me. Being active in sports has helped me develop strength and flexibility which help keep my body fit and healthy. I learned from a young age that I have heart disease and type 2 diabetes in my family. The American Heart Association says that 1 in 3 women will die of a heart attack or stroke.This can be a scary thing if you don’t understand how you can lessen the risks through diet and exercise. Being active through sports and learning to make healthy food choices (with help from my mom) helps me lessen that risk! However, what about the other families that have these same risks?? I know in my heart that we can all do better!
I developed my platform Kids in Action, because I want to encourage all kids to be active and make healthy choices, so they can build good habits and grow into healthy adults! If we can learn to make healthy food choices and exercise our bodys now (whether through play or sports) then it will be easier to keep doing it as we get older. A body in motion, stays in motion (1st law of motion-Issac Newton) Here are some ways that I have tried to build healthy habits and hope that they can encourage you!
Always carry a water bottle wherever you go.
For a snack, choose a piece of fresh fruit or vegetables such as carrot sticks. My mom always keeps fresh fruit in a bowl so we always have a healthy snack.
Do at least 30 minutes of activity a day. This could be riding a bike, playing outside with friends or participating in an organized sport or activity. Find something you love to do and do it everyday!!!!
Remember, Don't be afraid to try new things and always be a Kid in Action!
